Exercise during pregnancy & postnatal rehabilitation
Exercise during pregnancy
The health and wellness benefits of exercise during pregnancy for expecting mothers (and their babies) is widely documented. Pregnancy induces many new demands on functional capacity, physiological and anatomical interactions, therefore methods of exercise require careful consideration and planning. A number of key tips for safe and effective methods of exercise during pregnancy is available for download here.
Furthermore, specialised pre-natal exercise risk assessments and programs can be designed and monitored throughout your pregnancy - to suit your specific needs and limitations - by an experienced exercise physiologist in our clinic. Rebates are available for those with private health insurance "extras" covering exercise physiology services. Please contact Catherine on 9331 4001 for more information.
Post natal exercise rehabilitation
Following the birth of your baby, the restoration and rehabilitation process begins. The extent of pregnancy induced deconditioning and loss of functional strength and stability can be carefully assessed, and an appropriate exercise rehabilitation program designed by an experienced exercise physiologist in our clinic. Practical guidelines are provided in order to restore hip and spine stability, prevent pelvic floor weakness, and develop stamina/peripheral strength to help manage the demands that come with motherhood. A general overview of post-natal exercise rehabilitation tips can be downloaded here.
Post-natal exercise physiology consultations also attract private health insurance rebates. For more information, contact Mariana, our clinic's resident expert on pre and post-natal exercise/rehabilitation, on 9331 4001.
